Two Tips To Stop A Divorce

If one party has made up his mind to seek a divorce, it can be very difficult or impossible to stop that person from pursuing their goal.  However, nothing beats failure but a try.  Below are two suggestions or ideas that can be attempted before resigning to the fate that the marriage has ended and stipulating to the entry of a Judgment for Dissolution.

First, you can attempt to communicate your desires with your spouse and attempt to open a dialogue.  Each party should write down the positive and the negative aspects of their marriage.  The positive items should appear on the left hand side of the page and the negative items should appear on the right hand side of the page.  The parties should then exchange papers so that they could read what the other believes.  They should then discuss possible ways to address the negative aspects so that they are corrected or neutralized.  For example, if the wife listed as a negative aspect that the husband doesn’t communicate with her when he arrives home from work, husband can make an effort to do so before he continues with his evening activities.  He may not have even been aware of this negative aspect, but for the written illustration for his wife.

The above is simply one example of opening up the lines of communication so that problems can be illuminated.  A strong effort to address several of the negative issues can go a long way to saving a marriage.  It is often the lack of communication that leads to the irretrievable break down of the marriage.

Second, one can offer to seek counseling.  This can be done individually or jointly.  It can be done through a professional that focuses on marital counseling.  Contact experienced professionals in your area to interview and investigate potential counselors.
